The Avengers, and the beginning of summer movie season

Jeff and I went and saw The Avengers this weekend. It was really good! I’m a big fan of the Marvel movies (except for Thor, that was just bad) and so is Jeff. So it was no question that we would go see this movie opening weekend. I love going to the movies, but I feel like we should do a review of what is appropriate movie theater etiquette:

1. Turn your phone off. I shouldn’t even have to say this one. The screen on your phone may not seem that bright, but in a dark theater, it’s distracting.

2. Do not sit there and narrate the movie. The people around you, i.e. me and my husband, can hear you, and it’s really annoying. If you absolutely have to say something to the person sitting next to you, then whisper quietly in their ear.

3. Do not put your feet on the seat in front of you if someone is sitting in it. I did not appreciate having that girl’s flipflop hitting me in the head right in the middle of the movie. I mean, really? really? And to add to that, don’t sit there kicking the seat in front of you. It’s not comfortable to be sitting there trying to watch the movie and having your seat be jolted forward over and over.

4. Use the bathroom before the movie. If you have a tiny bladder, don’t get the super large soda. That way you won’t have to get up half way through the movie to use the bathroom and you won’t distract everyone that can see and hear you clonking down the stairs.

And finally,

5. If you find these guidelines hard to follow, and you have trouble with being considerate to the people around you, then maybe you should just wait and see the movie during the week when it’s not so busy, or just wait for the DVD.

I’m sorry if these seem harsh, but when we have to pay almost $20 to go see a movie, we want to enjoy it. Normally Jeff and I wait and see movies in the middle of the week when it’s less busy, but sometimes it’s nice to have a date night on the weekends.

  1. We went and saw it yesterday afternoon, and we both really liked it.. but I had someone kicking the back of my chair. (We went to Rave, and there is PLENTY of leg space so definitely no excuse to be touching the chair in front of you) After a couple minutes, I turned around and glared at the person. That stopped them! haha

  2. I’m glad you enjoyed the movie. I rarely get out to see movies anymore: but when I do: I always wonder why these simple guidelines bear repeating.
